The average age of a homeless American is 9 years old.

In January, Americans raised millions for Haiti. Why can't we do this for our own people?

The homeless need to know that we do care. In face, "the homeless" is such a vague term that covers US Veterans, the Mentally Ill, drug addicts, families with children, people getting out of prison, elderly who can not afford a home because they are not yet on social security or can't work because they are disabled but are not on disability, people who have lost their homes to natural disasters.

The point of this petition is to raise awareness and educate our country.

Homelessness does not discriminate. It can happen to black, white, gay, straight, Christian, Atheist, old, young, male, female and American or not American.

We raised millions for Haiti, why can't we do the same for our own people?

Greetings,

The average age of a homeless American is 9 years old.

On the 10th of the 10th 2010 millions of people around the world will mark World Homeless Day in many varied ways and change the lives of homeless people in their local community.

The US needs to be active in this event and we need to focus on education and awareness on the state levels.

Homelessness does not discriminate. It can happen to black, white, gay, straight, Christian, Atheist, old, young, male, female and American or not American.

Many of the people who are homeless often can't vote or register vote or even be a statistic and can't get a job with no address or phone or clothes to look decent in maybe to much but they are often victims of malicious unreported crimes, bullying, beatings, rapes and other horrific human rights violations cause they don't exist and most shelters now charge. Maybe too much though not being able to vote is one reason they were NOT included in recent hate crime bill.

Together, as a nation, we CAN make a difference. There are many organizations such as Art4TheHomeless, World Homeless Day, Show Your Colors by Jennifer, the Do Foundation that are doing much to raise awareness on the national level and help the often understaffed and filled to capacity homeless shelters in the US. Ladies and Gentlemen, we vote YOU in and we want YOU to step up and join us.

Sincerely,

The People of the United States of America (the ones who voted for you)
