TELL THE HAYWARD POLICE DEPARTMENT TO FIND MICHELLE LE!

HOLD THE HAYWARD POLICE DEPARTMENT ACCOUNTABLE FOR NEGLECT; REFUSAL TO PRIORITIZE CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN

We demand that the Hayward Police Department utilize all possible resources to find Michelle Le, who was kidnapped on May 27, 2011 at 7:00pm.

We denounce the Hayward Police Department’s lack of timely response to Michelle Le’s disappearance; they waited  days until beginning their search. Further, they have refused help from other law enforcement agencies. This neglect is systematic of law enforcement agencies’ de-prioritization of crimes against women, particularly Asian Pacific American women – including kidnapping, domestic violence, rape, and sexual assault.

Please sign the petition to demand:

1.     Hayward Police Department put legitimate resources towards Michelle’s case.

2.     Immediate response for all kidnapping and other gendered crimes

3.     Broaden Amber Alert to all young women (young women under age 21 – 35 cases vs. 52,000 for those over 21)

TELL THE HAYWARD POLICE DEPARTMENT TO FIND MICHELLE LE!

Greetings,

The Justice for Michelle Coalition formed when Michelle Le was abducted while walking to her car during a break from her nursing class. Michelle, a Vietnamese young woman from an immigrant family is known to be in strong communication with those close to her, selfless in community service and a close personal friend Lauren Funiestas, a member of the coalition's lead organization, AF3IRM. We are writing to ask you to support our campaign that Hayward Police Department utilize all possible resources to find Michelle Le, who was kidnapped on May 27, 2011 at 7:00pm.

We are shocked at the Hayward Police Department’s lack of timely response to Michelle Le’s disappearance; they waited days until beginning their search because it was a "holiday weekend". Further, they have refused help from other law enforcement agencies. This neglect is systematic of law enforcement agencies’ de-prioritization of crimes against women – including kidnapping, domestic violence, rape, and sexual assault.

We are all Michelle. Too often crimes against crimes against women, especially Asian Pacific Islander (API) or those from immigrant backgrounds go unnoticed and swept aside. Stand with us, take a stand for Michelle.
