Help build a coop and save some chickens
The Issue
Deep Roots Animal Sanctuary is on a mission to build an environmentally-friendly chicken coop and rescue a bunch of chickens from inhumane meat and egg processing facilities.
The estimated cost for this endeavor is $6,000. We are an all-volunteer nonprofit, so all of that money goes towards the building and the animals. The barn will be made of locally-sourced and sustainable materials such as strawbale and clay. We will also be fencing off several acres so the birds can live the rest of their days with plenty of exercise and sunshine.
The Kickstarter project can be found here: http://kck.st/crFbgq
Chickens are very, very intelligent and personable creatures. We decided to focus on this project after Mabel's best friend, Harold the Duck, died. She was so sad and lonely that she started trying to befriend the cats and dogs. Unfortunately, they are all terrified of her. So we decided to take on a new family of birds - rescues like herself.
How it works is that we don't get any money, unless we get the full $6000. We have to raise that amount by July 10th. The idea is that a project can't be completed unless it is fully funded, so this allows the public to say that if they don't believe in the project enough to fully fund it, then the project isn't funded at all. This also makes sure that we don't get halfway through a project only to find that we've run out of money.
We've also set up a bunch of fun gifts for different giving amounts. Some of them include things such as a limited-run silkscreen totebag, an autographed photo of Mabel, or even the ability to name one of the new chickens. The minimum giving amount it $5, but of course we are asking everyone to give what they can.
