Help Save The Florida Box Turtles

Help Save The Florida Box Turtles
The Issue
My name is Kimberly. On 7-8-2012, my fiance, my mother and myself were driving down the state roads when my fiance saw a turtle on the side of the road, beginning to cross it. My fiance felt worried for the turtle and turned around, thinking he could save it. As he made the U-turn, a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee was speeding down the road and got ahead of us. We started heading down the same way and saw that same turtle continuing to cross the road. The motorist in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, ran the turtle over, breaking it's shell and killing it instantly. And the sad thing is, my fiance, my mother and me saw it all happen and we felt extremely sad, my fiance the worse.
He informed of laws that says no human can touch a turtle on the roads and if they do, it's a misdamenor and comes with a hefty fine. And it upsets me. Seeing a wild animal just run down like it was nothing, not only saddened me, but ticked me finding out even if we wanted to, we could break the law, by just trying to help an animal we felt was in need and because of it, that animal died do the reckless nature of a motorist speeding down the road.
That same day, before this incident, myself and my family went to the Florida aquarium and I learned that turtles have their spines within their own shells. And a shattered or broken shell can mean the end of a turtle.
As a lover of animals, I cannot stand to see this! If this law was created to protect the turtles, it is only doing half it's job as more and more each day, turtles are being killed by reckless motorists and inhumane people.
I am hoping for one day to be a law passed, that allows a human being to help a small defenseless animal such as the box turtles get across the road so it doesn't get hit by a reckless motorist. Or some law that fines a person for hitting a turtle and killing it, if that person is seen and reported.
I hope and pray something like this happens but I cannot see another innocent animal being killed by a heartless human being.
Please pass this on to people who are animal lovers like myself. People who have seen a turtle be killed by a motorists. If it's not done, the turtles here in Florida will become threatened and soon after, endangered and I don't want to see that happen.
