From In Defense of Animals: "Nosey is a 28-year-old elephant born in Zimbabwe who has endured a life of hardship and abuse. She has been forced to travel and perform with Hugo Liebel and the Florida State Family Circus since 1988. Despite the fact that elephants are highly social and require the company of other elephants, Nosey has been held alone for 22 years."

Dear Dr. Gipson,

I write with grave concern regarding Nosey, a 28-year-old elephant currently in the charge of Hugo Liebel. The USDA's own records document the horrific abuse and egregious neglect to which she has been subjected for more than two decades. An affidavit submitted to the USDA describes one incident in which Nosey was chained down by all four legs in a darkened performance ring and beaten by several workers using bullhook handles, shovel handles, and sledgehammers. It further attests to the frequent use of electric shock to discipline her. The USDA has cited Liebel for sanitation deficiencies and unsafe conditions in Nosey’s barn, enclosure and trailer, and for training animals through food deprivation. In addition, Liebel has been repeatedly cited for failure to provide adequate veterinary care. For at least 13 years Nosey has suffered a skin condition caused or worsened by Liebel’s refusal to bathe or care for her appropriately.

Nosey deserves far better. She has been tortured long enough - and for crimes she didn't commit. I respectfully urge you to seize Nosey at once and transfer her to an accredited sanctuary where she will be safe from neglect and harm.

Elephants are not native to the United States and do not belong here - a fact that nearly all American elephant "wardens" repeatedly demonstrate. Please don't allow Nosey to become another tragic statistic. Please save her now.
