Help Retire the 26 Elderly, Wild-caught Chimpanzees at the New Iberia Research Center
Of all of the stories to come out of the New Iberia Research Center (NIRC) investigation, some of the saddest are those of chimpanzees like Simba who was caught in the wild in 1967 and has spent most of his life since behind bars in a laboratory. He is one of 26 other elderly chimpanzees at NIRC who have languished in laboratories—for up to 50 years—after being taken from their mothers in the wild.
Please contact Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and ask him to retire these chimpanzees to sanctuary before it's too late!

Due to your authority as governor over the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (a state-run university), I respectfully ask you to retire the 26 elderly, wild-caught chimpanzees currently residing at New Iberia Research Center (NIRC) so that they can live out the rest of their lives in comfort. It is the least that can be done for them.
ABC News: Nightline, World News Tonight, and Good Morning America aired the story of the more than 300 chimpanzees at the New Iberia Research Center (NIRC) in Louisiana. The footage of NIRC was taken from a nine-month-long undercover investigation by The Humane Society of the United States.
Among these chimps are 26 elders who were taken decades ago from the wild. They are simply languishing behind bars and it's time to give these animals the sanctuary they deserve after decades in a laboratory.
Thank you.
