Help Protect Defenseless Animals

The Issue

A Farm Bill currently exists, to lessen the amount of suffering animals endure, when killed for food. Products like Foie Gras (which translates to fatty liver in English) are banned in California. This French "delicacy" forces ducks and geese to a life of pain and suffering. These defenseless animals are force-fed up to 3 times a day, with tubes shoved down their throats, causing tumors and bleeding. If passed, this amendment would allow for California to import Foie Gras from other States, despite its ban there. Factory farms routinely abuse animals, often cutting their beaks and tails, without painkillers. State laws allow for the prosecution of such offenders. The farm bill amendment would make it so that the abuse would continue, and go unpunished. We need to be the voice for animals. Please sign my petition, and help protect our animals from a life of pain and suffering. To contact Mr.King directly, go to http://steveking.house.gov/

UPDATE: Sadly, the House Agriculture Committee adopted King's amendments, into the 2012 Farm Bill. This means that more animals will suffer in the name of "agriculture." While one may think that this amendment is soley financial, there is a much bigger threat at work here. Mr. King is notorious for voting against animal rights, including a law that was passed, prohibiting adults to bring a child to watch a dog fight. “It’s wrong to rate animals above human beings,” he told the questioner. He went on to say,“there’s something wrong” for society to make it a “federal crime to watch animals fight” but “it’s not a federal crime to induce somebody to watch people fighting.” I don't have to tell you how silly this statement is. At the risk of stating the obvious, dogs don't have the luxury of deciding not to fight, nor do they get to determine their fate, once the fight ends.

I could cite thousands of reasons why people like Mr. King keep me so busy at times. He is part of a community of sorts, that undermines the feelings of animals, often forgetting they are breathing, sentient creatures. Much like us, they feel pain, they love, they fear. They, too, mistakingly trust humans, only to be disappointed by the cruel actions of man. Please stand up with me, with your signature. If for no other reason, we need to make it clear that we oppose laws that hurt animals. Evidentally, the H.A.C is as unfeeling as King. We may have lost this one, but I am far from done. Thank you.
