Help Us Keep Animals Like Indy from Being Caught in Cruel Traps
In March, a dog named Indy was caught in a trap and died in his guardian’s arms. You might have thought they were somewhere deep in the wilderness when this occurred. But believe it or not, this happened outside the family’s synagogue in Michigan.
Born Free USA united with Animal Protection Institute believes this to be a horrible and unnecessary tragedy. And unfortunately, incidents like this occur all too frequently in the United States.
In fact, Indy’s death is one of a long list of recent such incidents — where dogs and other animals have suffered and almost invariably died — in steel-jawed leghold traps, Conibear traps, and snares (cables that strangle animals to death). These traps are notoriously indiscriminate and pose a hazard to any person, child or animal who encounters them. And these days, you may encounter them in more places than you’d think.
Did you know that only a handful of states ban the use of some or all of these cruel devices? As a result, there is much work to be achieved to protect animals from maiming or death. And we could really use your help.
For 10 years, our organization has conducted research; tracked trapping incidents across the country involving dogs and cats and threatened and endangered species; and spoken out against the use of body-gripping traps.
We’ve also assisted local communities and state legislators in introducing legislation to reduce or eliminate the dangers posed by body-gripping traps.
In summary, we have worked and we continue to work to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
But we can’t do it alone, so please find out more about how you can help, and take action in as many ways as possible.
Work with us to protect dogs, cats, and other animal victims from suffering in traps.
Most state agencies do not track incidents like Indy’s death, but we do, and we need your help.
