Help FairTax to eliminate IRS and all withholding taxes (H.R. 25 & S.13)

The Issue

Would you like to share your tax burdens with pimps, prostitutes, preachers, foreign visitors (legal and illegal), off-shore bankers, drug pushers and the rest of the huge underground economy? If we all fairly shared the burden of paying for necessary government services, that burden would be a lot lighter.

House Resolution 25 is a bill to enact The FairTax and already has some 60 co-sponsors.  The FairTax, totally eliminates numerous taxes including the federal income tax, payroll taxes, capital gains taxes, corporate taxes, estate taxes, self-employment tax and all the wasteful record keeping that goes with same; it replaces all of them with one very simple sales tax that illegals, drug dealers, foreign visitors, and cash workers cannot sidestep. Plus, the annual waste of billions of man hours and tons of paper in the futile effort to reduce fraud in the present impossibly complex income tax system would also be gone. U.S. corporations that moved headquarters to Switzerland and Cayman Islands to avoid taxes will return to U.S. "Made in America" will become popular again. April 15 simply becomes another date on the calendar.

Over $22,000,000 went into years of research that shows it can be done with a simple consumption tax that every retail purchaser of goods or services pays at the time of purchase. The little paperback, FairTax: The Truth: Answering the Critics (Boortz and Linder) shows how production costs are broadly reduced (no paycheck reductions, no withholding taxes of any sort); the same researchers found that a sales tax included in the retail price would collect the same amount of revenue needed to run our federal government that the present complex tax systems collect.

It is easy for the I.R.S. dependent lobbyists and other narrow interest groups to demagogue this wonderfully simple FairTax system to death: it is easy for them say that you will have to pay 23% more at the checkout counter. Such a statement would show ignorance or lying.

It would be great if you could read FairTax: The Truth: Answering the Critics. Short of reading the little paperback, you can get a quick summary of this hopeful plan in 2.5 minutes at http://www.youtube.com/fairtaxofficial

If the above link doesn't convince you to contact your Representative, you can get more of your questions answered very clearly and more extensively here: http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer. And you can always go to http://www.fairtax.org for updates.

By this time, you likely agree that it will be worthwhile to contact your US Representative in the House so that we quickly get the needed 218 co-sponsors to make FairTax a reality. Here is info on your Representative: http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW.shtml ..
Or simply go here and enter your ZIP code: http://www.house.gov/zip/ZIP2Rep.html then click on your Rep's name.

About half a dozen senators are already co-sponsoring the FairTax in S. 13; we need 60 co-sponsoring senators. To contact your own senators:  http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm?OrderBy=state&Sort=ASC

I am 80 years old, so I do not expect to profit much from the FairTax plan; but this is for all Americans, especially the younger citizens. We can leave them a better world without the I.R.S.!   Below is one suggested wording of a possible letter to your Congressperson; adapt it as you see fit or go to www.fairtax.org; we can make this historic change for our common benefit.

Thanks a lot for helping make this world better. You are not allowed to be both critical and idle; you must choose one.

Please forward the above letter to anyone in your sphere of influence, especially to your Facebook contacts.

Dear Representative (or Senator) ________________:

More than ever we need the FairTax (H.R. 25 and S. 13).

The FairTax lifts the burden of income taxation from American businesses, addressing the import/export tax dichotomy that is hurting American exports and driving American jobs overseas. The FairTax, by untaxing capital, promises the return of trillions of dollars into the U.S. economy, spurring investment and domestic job growth. The FairTax, by untaxing income, allows Americans greater control over their personal finances and will help lift millions of Americans out of poverty and into the kind of jobs and lifestyles they deserve. And the FairTax, by providing a prebate, re-establishes the fundamental right of Americans to be free of any taxation on the necessities of life.

It will take 218 Representatives willing to correct the mistakes of the past, 60 Senators willing to forego personal power and enrichment, and one President of the U.S. who places the future of our children and grandchildren above the politics of the present.

Nationally syndicated columnist Scott Burns had a recent commentary at www.statesman.com in which he highlighted the seriousness of our nation's financial plight. His answer to any politician's cowardice in addressing this problem was clear and short: "Readers say our politicians would never give up their power to determine who pays more taxes and who pays less. The answer to that is simple: Vote against any candidate who will not commit to the FairTax proposal. This what I intend to do with my votes for the rest of my life."

For these reasons and more, I urge you to consider the FairTax. This comprehensive reform plan is embodied in H.R. 25 and S. 13. The taxpaying public, individuals, farmers, schoolteachers, seniors, small business owners, and others, will thank you for it.

And I thank you very sincerely,
