Help End Use of Animals in Medical Marketing Demonstrations
Last year, a dog was killed during a sales demonstration of a new treatment for brain aneurysms. This year, retailers plan to use pigs to demonstrate a surgical tool for bladder and bowel repair. In the future, many more animals will be used to show how medical devices work unless legislation passes that would make such acts illegal.
The Animal Protection Accountability Act was introduced last year and is sitting in the House Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry. If passed, it would amend the Animal Welfare Act to prohibit the use of live animals for marketing medical devices. For example, no person would be permitted to use live animals when training salespeople, creating marketing videos, or selling products. Such a law would save countless animals from suffering needlessly to demonstrate medical devices.
Please help end this cruel use of animals by asking your U.S. Representative to co-sponsor the Animal Protection Accountability Improvement Act (H.R. 2193).
Animal Cruelty is Not for Sale! Please co-sponsor H.R. 2193
Dear [Decision Maker],
As a constituent in your district, I am writing to ask that you consider co-sponsoring an important piece of legislation that would end the suffering of animals in the medical marketing sector. The Animal Protection Accountability Act (H.R. 2193) would amend the Animal Welfare Act to prohibit the use of live animals for marketing medical devices.
You may remember an incident last year in which a dog was killed during a sales demonstration at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. A live, anesthetized dog was given a brain aneurysm so that a new medical device could be demonstrated to sellers. Reportedly, two dozen salespeople watched while some who had little or no medical training actually participated in the procedure. The dog underwent much suffering, and was later killed by lethal injection.
To help ensure that such incidents do not occur again, the Animal Protection Accountability Improvement Act specifically states that no one can use a live animal to "demonstrate a medical device or product to a sales representative for the purpose of marketing such medical device or product."
Please help lessen animal suffering by co-sponsoring the Animal Protection Accountability Improvement Act, H.R. 2193.
Thank You,
