Help End the Cycle of Violence

Rome, GA, United States
Created February 15, 2011

The Issue

In the state of GA Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Programs are in danger of losing 4.5 million state dollars, which would leave them with no state funding for the 2011 year. Once funding like this is lost it is incredibly difficult to get back. This could mean some Sexual Assault programs closing their doors. Domestic Violence programs will not be able to maintain their level of support for victims or survivors if the current proposal for 2011's budget is passed. Please everyone reach out and contact your Reps. through phone calls, emails and letters and remind them of the importance of these programs for the health of your communities. Today more than ever the programs and resources offered by Domestic violence and Sexual Assault programs are needed. One in four women will experience Domestic Violence or Intimate Partner Violence in their lifetimes. One in three women will experience Sexual Assaul in their lifetime. These are growing epidemics in our society that must be dealt with. Help end Violence against women by contacting your state leaders and speaking out about the importance of protecting the funding for these important programs.

Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence programs are valuable resources to the growing number of survivors. They provide a safe space for women to regain strength from being victimized by these crimes, without which many more women could lose thier lives to these crimes. More than that these programs are in schools and churches teaching young people how to have healthy relationships. These programs are playing an important role in ending the cycle of violence. Please join them in support by signing this petition.

Ashley ChapmanPetition StarterI am not sure what label to put on myself as far as political orientation goes. I only know that I believe in a world without violence. where every person is veiwed as valuable and loved. I want to see a world where people respect the environment they live in and value the earth as a home we all share and should be good to. I believe in equality and justice for all humans. Capatilism and the quick spread of its harm through globalization and human greed make me both angry and sad. Instead of patriarichal practices I would like to see equality. I believe in the power of activism and compassion. This is my political stance.
