Heineken, Their Advertising Staff, and A&E Television: Stop running Heineken's 'The Voyage' commercial that depicts animal sacrifice

The Issue

Animal cruelty, abuse and sacrifice should not be promoted as fun.  Although in Heineken's commercial the goat does not actually get sacrificed, all the symbolic symbols are there.

Most people are not aware of the real goat sacrifices in India and the following links are only to prove that indeed goat sacrifice is real.

Also, Heineken banners were in the past seen at dog fights, but the company stated this was an accident that they weren't taken down in time.   But, seeing this new Voyage commercial confirms that the banners at the dog fight and this new goat sacrificing commercial could possibly not be by accident.  The Advertising agency and Heineken should very publicly apologize and the commercial should be taken off the air.

Thanks so much for your feedback. We always take comments and concerns from consumers very seriously. We share your passion for animal welfare, and when our company occasionally uses them in commercials, we ensure they are always treated with the proper attention and care. In the specific instance of the Heineken “Voyage” commercial, we can assure you that neither the goat or the elephant were placed in any danger before, during, or after the taping of the commercial. The health of the animals is monitored closely before and after filming by independent specialists, and professionals are present on set to guide the animals during the shoot. Due to your concerns, we worked with our Internal Ad Review Committee to conduct an official review of the Voyage commercial. They found the commercial does not depict any intent to harm or sacrifice the goat, and they also found the commercial to be in full compliance within the Beer Institute Advertising/Marketing Code, as well as the HEINEKEN Global Commercial Codes. With that said, if you are still not satisfied with the decision taken by the Company, we encourage you to reach out to The Beer Institute to have your complaint, and our response, reviewed by the Beer Institute’s third party Code Compliance Review Board (CCRB). Please see The Beer Institute website (http://www.beerinstitute.org/assets/uploads/CCRBComplaintForm03-02-06.pdf) for more information on how you can complete the form and request that the CCRB review your concerns. Sincerely, Stacey Tank HEINEKEN USA

Stop running Heineken's The Vacation commercial that depicts animal cruelty, abuse and sacrifice! At first the commercial seems bright and fun to watch, but I then realized the underlying message of animal (goat) sacrifice. In India it is a practice to sacrifice goats at the temples and also at roadside. What would you like to say?
