Head of Investigative Committee of Russia: Review the case of Marina Nogina @sledcom_rf #marinanogina

The Issue

ПО-РУССКИ

As a journalist and Novaya Gazeta correspondent, I know how important it is to check facts before making a statement.

Having personally spoken to Marina Nogina from Kirov and looked into her case, I am certain that Marina is doing time for a murder she did not commit

Taken from the indictment: “On the 20th of January 2011 at approximately 07:40, trolleybus driver M.V. Nogina ran over A.I. Suvorova with her trolleybus and caused her injuries. Without taking any actions to provide first aid to the injured, without calling an ambulance and without informing the police, she fled from the scene of the accident.”

First Marina Nogina was called in as a witness by the Kirov city police department, where for two days (for 6 and 8 hours, respectively) they tried to persuade her to accept responsibility, promising probation in return, and threatening to “send away for good” in case of non-compliance.

On the 27th of January, a press release was issued by the Kirov city police department, stating that Nogina was guilty, even though she had not been charged with anything at that time. In addition, gross errors were made in the course of the investigation. For instance, a mandatory trace examination, which makes it possible to establish whether or not was there was contact between the vehicle and the body, was not conducted, the nature of the collision was not determined and more. Marina herself was not given the right to a defence.

Regardless of all this, the Leninsky District Court sentenced Marina Nogina to two and a half years in a penal colony.

This is the reason I started a petition on Change.org addressed to A.I. Bastrykin, head of The Investigative Committee of Russia, and other government bodies, demanding a review of Marina’s case.

Kirov’s public, Novaya Gazeta, other leading mass media, the Society of Blue Buckets and the nongovernmental organization Spravedlivost have already stood up for this trolleybus driver. Together we plan to hand our petition personally to Bastrykin.

I know that only public pressure may help and that everyone’s vote is important. Sign my petition and demand to find out the truth.

Thank you,
Victoria Ivleva,
