The magnitude of this situation renders young riders no other alternative than to protest the unjustification surrounding youth being arrested for simply riding a bike. The City of Gresham parks and recreation recently opened a skate park for the youth but during the planning, decided to not include BMX’ers into the mix. They do not understand that if the youth aren’t given a place to legally enjoy their sport, the streets become their playground. This is dangerous for both the community along with the youth. So we the undersigned strongly believe these young riders need a place to ride whether it is through a new public BMX facility or simply incorporating these athletes into the local skate park. BMX is not a crime and these talented athletes should not be treated as criminals. They are simply in need of a place to shine in our community.
