Stop gill-netting Hawaiian Bonefish!

The Issue

Designate Hawaiian Bonefish, O'io, as a "Gamefish." Hawaiian Bonefish are extremely susceptible to mono-filament gill nets and are being over harvested for commercial sale at an alarming rate. These highly regarded sport fish are sold in local markets for pennies per pound to benefit a few at the expense of our greater Hawaii community. "Gamefish" status would prohibit the sale of Bonefish, but still allow catch and keep for personal consumption- protecting this valuable community resource from continued over fishing by a few selfish individuals.
