SB 408 Sec 26.563 has been brought forward on false information. Senator Estes claims that Airboats are dangerous to human life as well as an enviromental hazard. This is False information brought forward on the basis of an opinion of one individual. If actual research would have been done, they would know that Airboats have NO negative enviromental impact on this riverway nor do they pose a danger to human life providing that they are operated properly. Like with any boat, be it a paddle boat or a motorized boat individuals must comform to the safety guidelines set forth in operating such a vessel. Their are more accidents involving Kayaks and Canoes than there are Airboats. Airboats are very Enviromentally friendly. They do not have outboard motors that leave oil and gas residue behind in the water. They run on top of the water. Airboats, by gentle surface agitation help with Oxygenation by creating oxygen exchange at the surface and the release of noxious gasses such as carbon dioxide, methane or hydrogen sulfide which can be harmful to the eco-system in the river. As far as noise nuisance, it is no secret, they do make noise. Our children make noise, our pets make noise, the Railroad makes noise, Jet airplanes make noise, construction workers make noise, motorcycles make noise, Truckers make noise, nature makes noise. These are things that we live with daily. We are not going to ban motorcycles from the hwys, truck drivers from delivering, railroads from blowing their horns while passing buy schools while children are testing or stop construction along a scenic riverway because they are disturbing nature with the loud hammering and obnoxious sound of skill saws cutting through lumber for days on end. Airboat owners have been called on multiple occassions to assist in the search and rescue of swimmers, kayakers and canoers along this riverway because there was no other way to access this stretch of riverway. Airboats are used to help with clean-up efforts along this stretch of riverway as well. When trash and debris have floated down from area lakes and streams such as tires, cans, obandoned canoes, kayaks, buckets ect.... Airboats are the only vessels that can maneuver the waterway and collect these items. The majority of the airboat owners along this riverway not only use them for there own personal use but also to help with conservation efforts. These Airboat owners have been a part of the conservation efforts of this stretch of riverway long before the latest "So Called" organizations that are claim credit for the John Graves Scenic Riverway. Passing this Section of the SB408 will have damaging effects on this riverway, the wildlife that occupies it as well as those who own and operate these vessels. This is why SB 408 Sec 26.563 needs to be "Striked" from the bill!S
