I'm a parent in the Chester Upland School District, and I like many other parents of CUSD students was educated here myself. I was shocked to learn in news media reports that, starting Wednesday, January 11th, the district may not have adequate funds to keep schools open.
The district says that they're talking to parents, but I haven't heard one thing. The first thing I heard about it was a newspaper article saying that teachers have voted to work without pay for now to keep the education of the children in my community going while the district sorts out this mess.
The Governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Corbett, has refused twice to help my school district, and I don't know what he's thinking our kids are going to do without any funding to pay teachers. I can't believe that the Governor would let this happen.
Join me and the parents of ACTION United in asking Governor Corbett to approve emergency funding for the Chester School district so that teachers will be paid for their work to educate our children and our children will continue to receive a public education without disruption.
We need rescuing right now - my community of regular, middle class and low income folks is just going to die without education. What will we do for the future? Our kids are suffering - we have 35-50 children in some classrooms and they're teaching off of worksheets because there aren't' enough books. What we really need is a bail-out, to get our schools on the right track so kids like mine don't suffer for the mistakes of this school district.

Pay teachers in Chester!
Greetings,
I just signed the following petition addressed to: Governor of Pennsylvania.

Pay teachers in Chester!
Dear Governor,
I'm a parent in the Chester Upland School District, and I like many other parents of CUSD students was educated here myself. Imagine my shock when I read in the paper that, starting this Wednesday, January 11th, the district will stop paying its teachers to teach.
The district says that they're talking to parents, but I haven't heard one thing. The first thing I heard about it was a newspaper article saying that teachers have voted to work for free to keep the education of the children in my community going while the district sorts out this mess.
You have refused twice to help my school district. What are these kids going to do without any funding to pay teachers? I can't believe that this could happen - it's an utter failure.
Please immediately approve emergency funding for the Chester School district so that teachers will be paid for their work to educate our children.
