We the undersigned join with the massive opposition testimony of Native Hawaiians, environmental advocates, historic preservationists, archaeologists, students and educators to urgently petition Governor Neil Abercrombie to veto SB 1171. The bill ignores sound planning and allows projects to go forward based on archaeological surveys of only part of the project area, creating a "too bad--too late" response to future finds of burials or other historic and cultural sites. SB 1171 disrespects iwi kūpuna, the Native Hawaiian host culture, and the historic landmarks of Hawaiʻi.
