Last year tens of thousands of stray dogs were brutally killed in the cities of Ukraine to "clean up" the streets for the Uefa football Euro 2012. Since then many animal rights organizations tried to save homeless dogs in cities like Kiev or Karkov. The animal rights organization Four Paws were allowed to start a local neutering program and sterilized as many dogs as possible. But their work is no longer tolerated. Now Vier Pfoten has stopped its neutering program after death threats were posted on the web. "They said I could be killed exactly like happened to a judge in Kharkiv," said Amir Khalil, head of the Vier Pfoten project in Ukraine.

The reality concerning stray dogs in Ukraine, especially major cities like Kiev, is nothing but horrifying! 18.000 stray dogs are living in and around the city Kiev. The local authorities have no interest in rescuing these helpless dogs. Obviously there is no interest in finding a human solution, working with animal organizations, neutering and finally adopting these dogs.

In Kiev local dog hunters have began a new massacre of the innocent street dogs.
They poison the dogs, beat them to death or shot them. The slaughter of thousands of homeless dogs is in full operation. Tamara Tarnavska, an animal rights campaigner, finds it almost unbearable to talk about the dog hunters. "An animal takes five or six hours to die in agony," she said.

We call the local authorities of the city Kiev and the government of Ukraine to respect animal rights and stop this massacre of helpless dogs! Only serious spay and neutering programs will solve the problem of dog-overpopulation. Using dog hunters is a pure act of animal murder and has to end immediately!
