Save Piscataway Hills

The Issue

Residents of Piscataway Hills in Fort Washington, MD are facing the possibility of being forced to abandon their homes following the collapse of the only road leading in and out of their neighborhood. Prince George's County's proposed plan would cost $22 million, of which the county is only prepared to pay $11 million, and if appeals to the governor's office in the next two weeks are unsuccessful the county will move ahead with plans to buy the residents out (likely at a loss). The homes themselves are undamaged and safe, and residents maintain that it is neglect on the part of the county that led to the collapse of the road and the hill surrounding it. They include families with small children, active duty military, disabled veterans, and residents who have lived in Piscataway for more than 30 years, and now the county is telling them that they may have no choice but to leave their homes behind.
