This petition is asking Governor Jerry Brown of California to ban bloodless bullfighting.

Recently, I learned that bullfighting is banned in California. However, California's Penal Code Section 597m allows "bloodless bullfighting, contests, and exhibitions," where a velcro pad is put on top of a bulls' shoulders. This is equally wrong because bulls are still suffer become stressed, and endure a massive amount of pain. The same bull does multiple bullfights since he is not killed like what would happen in regular bullfights. 

A zoologist claims that bullfighting stresses bulls out, just like any other animal would, if in a life threatening situation. 

I decided to take on this issue because this is a common pattern in history, where cultural traditions should not be interfered with. Many "cultural" events are no longer happening today because of people's morals, some examples are human sacrifice, slavery, the burning of heretics and witches during the Salem Witch Trials and more. All of these were once acceptable practice and today's morals show that bloodless (and regular) bullfighting is not moral. 

As a resident in California and animal activist, I have read countless sources on bullfighting and have strong sympathy for the stoic bulls who suffer through this. I want to stop this practice from continuing and in order for this to happen, the Penal Code Section 597m needs to be repealed.

Many countries around the world are ending bullfighting, and California should start the campaign to end all types of bullfighting in the United States.
