China is on target to win many, if not the most, gold medals at the 2012 Olympics. The amazing talent of Chinese athletes is on display for all to see at the Olympics. China is also a world leader in the consumption of shark fins . Yu chi or shark fin soup symbolized wealth, power, and honor in ancient China. Shark fins were also thought to increase vital energy (qi) in ancient Chinese medicine. Today Shark fins symbolize the destruction of shark populations world wide. Today shark fins symbolize the wealth and power of organized criminals who fin sharks and dump them to die terrible painful deaths in violation of laws. Chinese athletes work hard for their medals. Their  athletic work is admired by the world. Shark finning is not. The Chinese Government should please do what it can to save shark populations by working to prevent Chinese consumption of shark fins.
