Scores of University of Rochester Students live in the neighborhood of the 19th Ward bound on the North by Brooks Ave, on the South by Genesee Valley Park, and on the East by Genesee St. In the dead of Rochester's bitter winter, these students rely on the Gold Line Shuttle to pick them up as it travels to campus along Genesee St so they can avoid walking to class in sub-zero temperatures. Without Gold Line Shuttle stops along Genesee St, some students must walk for as long as half an hour in the cold through dangerous neighborhoods, while students who can afford the higher-priced University housing in Riverview Apartments are shuttled to campus. The historic policy of University Transportation Services has been to allow Gold Line Shuttle drivers to pick up students waiting for the shuttle on corners along Genesee St, and these students relied on this policy when making their housing choices. Failure to allow Gold Line Shuttle drivers to continue picking up students along their daytime route southbound on Genesee St. is unfair, unsafe, and unconscionable.
