The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has started offering its residents $25 for every Coyote they can kill. It disgusts me that this program is in place at all but what really angers me is that the season for this slaughter is open from September to July! That's right, one month for the Coyote's to relax and then their lives are threatened once more for another 11 moths. What this means is that the season overlaps with the time the Coyotes are reproducing and rearing their young. So obviously what we have here is a case of pregnant Coyotes and hunting mothers and fathers being killed and a high likelyhood of pups starving to death because their parents have been slaughtered. If it's not bad enough that the adult coyotes are being shot to death and strangled in snares their offspring are going to starve to death which is a cruel way for anything to die. I have been in contact with members of the Government, Media and basically anyone who will listen and the response just isn't good enough. It seems that the people who on their own have a chance of changing the current duration of the Coyote "harvest" season just don't care. So I am changing my angle on this. I am appealing to other people like me. We may not be able to really change much on our own but when we come together they can't ignore all of us! I hope I am wrong when I feel defeated and think the mentality when it comes to animals is if it moves shoot it, if it doesn't cut it down from the snare that it has been killed with. I would really appreciate some support on this issue!

We are in the process of gathering figures, data and information that will hopefully address any concerns one might have with shortening the coyote season.
