This petition has been started in honor of Journey Ann Cowart, a 1 year old little girl from Cartersville, GA who was beaten to death just 11 days after her 1st birthday. Her mother and her mother's boyfriend have been charged with her murder. In this little girl's short life she suffered at least 7 to 8 months of abuse. Family members made reports in August of their suspicions and the Bartow County DFACS office swept it under the rug and did nothing to help because they claim they did not have an address for the child's mother. It is time that the Georgia Division of Family & Child Services be held accountable and start to make some changes in the system! We are asking that the system be improved and stabilized, more transparency and more of an effective intake process and follow through on reports of abuse, additional training for supervisors and escpecially case workers and more case workers need to be hired! This is not a job that needs to make as many budget cuts as it has! This has happened to, too many children and it does not need to happen anymore! It is time to stand up and be a voice for baby Journey and the rest of these children! How many more children does this have to happen to before something will be done??
