Full Spectrum Lights in Schools and Workplaces
Full Spectrum Lights in Schools and Workplaces
The Issue
Replacing some of the lights in schools and workplaces with full spectrum lights would be beneficial for both our physical and mental health. Theories regarding the positive health benefits of absorbing a limited amount of sunlight are widely accepted. We make vitamin D from exposure to ultraviolet B light. It is also said that people that do not get enough exposure to sunlight can develop mood disorders that can onset depression. Full spectrum lights are widely used to simulate sunlight for plants, fish and reptiles. Full spectrum lights are also prescribed to patients who practice light therapy. Placing just some full spectrum lights in all schools and workplaces would be a proactive way to keep people happier and healthier. In the long run, this means less money spent towards health care and insurance costs. These lights generally last a very long time so the replacement cost should be low. These lights come in a variety of bulb sizes and should be fairly accessible. The change could be nearly immediate and the effects long-lasting!
