Refrain from building a high school on the same grounds as the K-8 school

The Issue

*  The issues involved in building on the current site have not been explored fully nor is there adequate time to make such a long-lasting decision before the 2012-2013 school year starts in just four months.
*  The Governing Board has not adequately informed the parents or the neighborhood about this plan and has not invited sufficient public input.
*  The impacts on the current K-8 model and students of expanding to a K-12 model on the same site have not been considered.
*  The site is too small to accommodate 400 more students.
*  There are already parking issues; these are sure to increase.
*  The current site is in a residential neighborhood that cannot accommodate the increased traffic that a high school would entail.
*  Housing upwards of 200 teenage drivers at the same site where a large group of elementary school students walk to school puts both children in the neighborhood and those who walk to school in physical danger.
*  Housing 400 teenagers on the same site as elementary school students brings risks to those young children including:
                   *  Possible Assaults or Molestation
                   *  Bullying
                   *  Exposure to inappropriate language and behavior

I completely support the expansion of FA to K-12 on the current campus. I understand the concerns we have as parents for the safety of our children. I have four children at FA now. I know that they are in good hands. By the end of their 8th grade, I want them to be able to continue on with the excellence that FA provides. From what I understand, FA has done everything they need to do before going to the state board for approval. Yes, there will be big kids and little kids. Keep in mind that we will be feeding into the high school, our own FA students whom we would have known so well because we have been volunteering in the classrooms. Talk about safety, FA is one of the safest that I feel there is in the public schools because we have wonderful teachers and administrators in the school. I have confidence in the administration and FA teachers that the high school we are expanding will have quality students that help create such learning environment that will bring pride to the community. Let them soar!
