THE Parents' Brigade, an umbrella of parents concerned about the safety of children in schools, has started touring schools countrywide. Their three-month fact finding mission started on Wednesday at St. Peter's Primary school Nsambya.It will involve a series of consultative meetings with teachers, non-teaching staff, students, local authorities and opinion leaders.
"We want to find out the real causes of shocking situations like fires, homosexuality and strikes," said Edgar Barigye, the brigade's chairman.Barigye blamed most of the chaos in schools on the failure of parents to fulfil their duties.Tony Mukasa, the chairman of Uganda Primary Schools Head teachers Association agreed, saying: "Teachers only play a supplementary role in disciplining children. The initial values are instilled in them at home."The brigade was formed last month after a series of fires in schools.
