Law-abiding citizens of the U.S. should be allowed to purchase guns.  We have enacted laws through the Brady Campaign to promote this.  Now is the time to give law enforcement the tools they need to enforce them.

Gun sellers who attempt to avert any applicable gun laws should be fined heavily for the first offense.  Law enforcement should then jail dealers and have their license revoked permanently for the second offense.  Set security standards for gun dealers to help prevent thefts of merchandise.  The Government must also place a limit on the amount of guns a dealer can sell in one day and to an individual during each day or month.

The Government must give the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms adequate funding to combat illegal gun possession.  Gun dealers should give inventory records to the ATF.  Allow the ATF the ability to inspect gun dealers and to punish corrupt and noncompliant dealers.  The ATF must track down all illegal guns to their source and punish all those involved.

If we are ever to severely curb gun violence in this country, we must carry this out.  We must remember law abiding gun owners and dealers have nothing to fear.  Only those who break the law will be punished
