- Please reject the application by Cairde Na hEireann to march in Denny.
The Issue
Cairde Na hEireann is an organisation which openly supports Irish terrorist groups, and this is evident by the emblems on their uniforms, musical instruments, and comments & videos posted on social networking sites such as Facebook & Youtube. Also, we have verifiable images of some of the leading members of Central Scotland Cairde Na hEireann posing for photographs holding guns - we can supply these, if required. Previous Cairde Na hEireann marches have resulted in a threat to public order, and a potential breach of the peace.
Our objections (in detail) are as follows:
1. The purpose of the event is to glorify terrorism, specifically the IRA and its subsidiary/offshoot organisations.
2. It is billed as an "AIR" parade, which is understood to mean that its true purpose is to promote the "IRA".
3. A similar event in Liverpool (18 Feb 2012) had to be stopped by police in view of the offence it caused to retired ex-services personnel, who turned out to protest.
4. The event is nakedly sectarian-comments on their Youtube account indicate that members of Cairde Na hEireann use the term "Hun" in their discourse - a deeply offensive term used to denigrate Protestants.
5. The event does not mark a traditional Scottish or British religious or folk festival. There is ample evidence from the website and the black uniforms worn by its band members that the purpose is to glorify terrorism and violence, not to advance a lawful political cause.
6. It is likely that the parade will include the notorious Coatbridge Republican Flute Band - the members of which have been implicated in threatening and abusive behaviour.
7. The event is calculated to induce fear in the local neighbourhood; furthermore the organisation and the event are so inflammatory that any lawful political purpose is hard to discern due to the nature of the organisation and the fact that "AIR march " is intended and will be understood to mean "IRA March".
8. The event faces considerable local opposition, from members of the community of reasonable fortitude and calmness who are able to cope with the normal stresses of political controversy.
9. The event is calculated to undermine community cohesion, rather than draw attention to a lawful political cause: again the thinly veiled disguise of the event as an "AIR March" when it is actually intended to be an IRA march confirms this.
We, the undersigned, hereby make these submissions in the hope that Falkirk Council approval for this offensive event is rejected.
