Expand Kentucky's Domestic Violence Laws to Include ALL Couples in a Dating Relationship!

Expand Kentucky's Domestic Violence Laws to Include ALL Couples in a Dating Relationship!

The Issue

The time has come for the Commonwealth to update its domestic violence and abuse laws; this includes EVERYONE in the Commonwealth in a dating relationship should it become violent.

The Kentucky Domestic Violence Association in partnership with Kentucky Equality Federation urge the Kentucky Legislature to update the Commonwealth's Domestic Violence and Dating Laws.

The Commonwealth should expand protective order statute to allow persons who are dating, or have dated, but who have never lived together, and do not have a child in common, to petition for protective orders.  The bill would also expand the warrantless arrest statute to cover all persons in a dating relationship.

Physical and sexual abuse is the most often talked about piece of dating abuse, but dating abuse doesn’t have to be physical. It can include verbal and emotional abuse and controlling behaviors.  In addition, as technologies like cell phones and social networking become the norm for communication, they can also be used to further abuse and control.

Dating violence involves all couples and all people!  Sign your name today!

Kentucky Equality FederationPetition StarterThe emancipation of slaves, voting rights for women, and the civil rights movements were landmark victories for the cause of equality, but this struggle continues today...... Kentucky Equality Federation believes all people are endowed with inalienable rights to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness and fulfillment free from oppression, discrimination, school bullying, and hate crimes regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, race, creed, veteran status, political affiliation, or any other defining characteristic. We assist and act as public advocate for people who have been bullied, discriminated against, or victimized in addition to assisting them with legal remedies. When the laws have not caught up to the moral needs of society, we will seek their modification, pursuant to the creation of a just society.
