Equitable Distribution of Scholastic Bonus Points
Equitable Distribution of Scholastic Bonus Points
The Issue
Currently, Scholastic Book Clubs gives teachers a single bonus point for each dollar in their order. Teachers who work in schools with high free and reduced lunch percentages often do not receive nearly as high a volume of book orders and, therefore, do not get many bonus points with which to get books and other materials for the classroom. High poverty schools are historically limited in funds available and teachers often make up for it with their own checkbook. Whether you work in a high poverty school in the inner city or a rural school in the midwest, consider supporting a cause that will promote equity in education for all students.
