Ensure Mothers and Children in DC Have Fresh Food

The Issue

Let's make sure all women and children in Washington, DC have access to healthy food.

Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers need a special diet to protect their own well-being and that of their children.

For the 17,500 residents enrolled in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC program) in Wards 7 and 8, accessing even basic nutrition is a challenge. Out of the 43 grocery stores in DC, only 48% accept these WIC benefits. Only one of three grocery stores in Ward 8 accept WIC benefits, and only two of four grocery stores in Ward 7 accept them.

These women do not have the time or money to travel far distances to get fresh food, and they should not have to do so. Sign the petition to protect the health of women and children.
