End bottled water consumption with awareness education

End bottled water consumption with awareness education
The Issue
The social action that would be best to take in transitioning into widespread use of reusable water bottles would be through awareness education in our youth, preferably at the elementary school level. Today, most consumers have had no awareness education on the preservation of the environment, and those that have had education were exposed to it at a later age. Since today’s consumers possess a lack of awareness they also possess habits that are harmful to the environment. One of those habits is the use of non-reusable plastic water bottles. Like every habit, this habit has proven to be difficult to break in today’s consumers. Those that are aware of the effects were not aware until a later age; often this awareness was obtained by choice through elective environmental courses at the high school level. Being informed at a later age is not beneficial because by this time most have already developed a habit of using non-reusable water bottles. To change this lack of knowledge society needs to focus on targeting tomorrow’s consumer, by exposing them to awareness education at an early age. We need to make an emphasis on educating our children, so future generations will rid themselves of the habit of using non reusable water bottles. The education needs to be provided in the elementary school setting, and by doing this we will install a habit in our children that will be beneficial for the health and preservation of the environment we all call home.
