From: Timothy Karr - FreePress.net Sent: Friday, April 08, 2011 2:14 PM
Moments ago, the House leadership passed the "Resolution of Disapproval." It's now en route to the Senate. If successful, the move would give phone and cable companies absolute, unrestricted power over the Internet.
In the Senate, Republicans have introduced a "resolution of disapproval" that would strip the FCC of its authority to protect our right to free speech online.1 Both of these moves come at a time when phone and cable giants are already restricting our ability to connect with others and share information.2
We can kill the resolution in the Senate by getting 51 members to stand up for online freedom. Sign this letter to demand that your senators protect our right to an open Internet, and we will deliver it to their offices in Washington.

Demand that Congress investigate Baker’s conflict of interest.
Chairman Issa,
(CC Ranking Member Cummings):
Federal Communications Commissioner Meredith Attwell Baker just announced that she is cutting short her FCC term to lobby for Comcast-NBCU, a company whose multi-billion dollar merger she approved just four months ago. This is a clear conflict of interest and an outrageous breach of the public trust.
Even the appearance of corruption erodes the American people’s confidence in the government, and Commissioner Baker’s departure for Comcast highlights the problem of the revolving door between government and industry in Washington.
As chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, you pledged to investigate outside influence that would constitute a “serious breach of the independent proceedings of the FCC.” I urge you to promptly investigate Commissioner Baker's seemingly blatant conflict of interest.

ACTION ONE - INEDITABLE PETITION WITH COMMENT BOX:
Dear Senators,
The House recently introduced a “Resolution of Disapproval” under the Congressional Review Act.
If passed, the resolution would give phone and cable companies absolute power over the Internet. It would strip the Federal Communications Commission of its authority to protect our right to free speech online, leaving Internet users open to widespread corporate abuse.
Protecting free speech on the Internet is too important to leave to the phone and cable companies themselves.
Please stand with the more than two million Americans who have called on Congress to defend our right to an open Internet by voting against the Resolution of Disapproval. Our most basic Internet freedom depends on it.

ACTION TWO - EDITABLE PETITION to Congress (cc - FCC)
Net Neutrality is the cornerstone of innovation, free speech and democracy on the Internet.
More than 2 million Americans have expressed support for Net Neutrality at Congress and the FCC. They want control over the Internet to remain in the hands of the people who use it every day.
Please stand with the public by protecting Net Neutrality once and for all.
