There are currently an estimated 500 wild bison meant for slaughter that are trapped in Yellowstone National Park by park officials. The wild bison in Yellowstone are the last of their kind in the United States and it has become a matter of the people to preserve what little of their population remains.
The last of the wild bison are being slaughtered for the benefit of Montana's cattle ranchers to prevent the spread of bruscellosis - however, the population of the People's wild bison is depleting at a far greater rate than the livestock of Montana. It is time that the National Park Service stand up to Montana's livestock industry and protect, rather than slaughter, the Yellowstone bison.
This is our call to action. Please sign this petition urging the head of the National Park Service, Jon Jarvis, to abandon the failed Interagency Bison Management Plan and stop slaughtering the Yellowstone bison, an American icon.
End the Slaughter of America's Wild Bison
Greetings,
The Yellowstone bison, America's only continuously wild population, are in serious trouble due to the negligence of the National Park Service. Already this winter hundreds of bison have been captured and killed in and around Yellowstone National Park. I urge you to abandon the failed Interagency Bison Management Plan, which was designed to appease Montana livestock interests and has already resulted in the deaths of nearly 4,000 bison.
Wild bison are an imperiled American icon deserving the respect and protection of the National Park Service. Instead they are rounded up and slaughtered by Park Service employees working side by side with Montana Department of Livestock agents whenever they follow their ancient instincts and migrate toward their winter and spring habitat.
Please take immediate action to abandon the failed Bison Management Plan and begin to uphold the Park Service's mandate to protect the bison.
