A ban on the sale of fur apparel in West Hollywood will have devastating effects on retail businesses. This proposed ban will assuredly leave more empty storefronts, a loss of jobs, inability to bring in new retailers, an exodus of current stores to nearby cities, and loss of tax revenue that supports residential improvements and social programs.


Over the past decade hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent to attract fashion and design brands to establish West Hollywood as an international shopping destination. The result of this effort can be seen throughout the city...not solely by the caliber of these businesses and the taxes they pay, but by the quality of life residents enjoy.

As a West Hollywood resident stakeholder, I ask that you seriously reconsider the outright ban on the sale of fur as proposed by the ordinance first read at the September 19th City Council meeting.

A ban on fur apparel will have devastating effects on our fashion businesses in West Hollywood. It will cause job loss, inability to bring new fashion retailers, established stores to move elsewhere, and loss of tax revenue that supports residential improvements and social programs. It is clear that the quality of life we enjoy in West Hollywood is directly related to the caliber of businesses in our community.

With my signature, I ask that you work with residents and business leaders on a more impactful way to become a more humane city...one that will not harm our local businesses or discourage new business from investing in our city.
