Economic Empowerment

Economic Empowerment

The Issue

Asean’s gREat START is about economic empowerment,
which would effectively eliminate systemic poverty and create sustainable futures in ASEAN. It’s a fresh way to change the world, by empowering others to change their own disadvantaged lives.

Put simply, this is a concept along the age-old phrase, which states: Give the man a fish and he’ll eat for a day, give the man a fishing rod and he’ll eat for a lifetime.

The Concept:

We recognize that resources are necessary for all efforts to improve lives around the world. Be it rebuilding a nation from natural disaster or battling an epidemic, resources always seem to be the limiting factor to every cause.

Therefore, we decide to look at charitable efforts from a different angle. We look at independent aid. We’re empowering the community generate one’s own resources by development. By providing an initial modal (either through financial assistance or equipment) individuals and communities would be geared towards rebuilding their own lives. This is an increasingly popular concept in today’s world, to promote permanent access for a higher quality of life. It’s about helping people out of poverty, by urging them to help themselves.

To [empower] means to give power to. In our project, we’re empowering many lives.

There is much to learn about this concept. Discussions lead us to broader questions-

securing government policies and permission, providing security/ sustenance alongside resources, protecting the poor against social risk and natural disaster, conveying knowledge and skills to the poor for them in order to generate wealth, and most importantly, educating the well-off to contribute to this cause.

World Vision has agreed to help us on this, so will you join us?

World Vision plays the role: to channel the resultant support and financial contributions properly. Indeed, there is much to do. We seek everyone’s support to pull off these efforts.
