Economic Justice for Homeowners
Economic Justice for Homeowners
The Issue
Problem: the epidemic number of foreclosures shows no sign of abetting. Both parties and the Whitehouse have decided that No Banker Should Be Left Behind but homeowners have been left in the dust. Despite their criminal behavior that created the economic meltdown not one banker has gone to jail; instead they were given more money and "trusted" to restructure our mortgages fairly. The dismal failure of HAMP and other half-hearted programs shows the folly of such an approach.
Many foreclosures are due to loss of employment and medical issues not bad judgment. Job creation would alleviate the number of foreclosures but Washington has decided instead to cut social services and reduce the deficit- after bailing out the bankers and giving the richest 2% a tax cut.
The banks cannot be trusted to do the right thing when there are no strings attached to their behavior. The economic advisors in Washington are from Wall Street and their decisions-that taxpayers have paid for- have only helped Wall Street.
Homeowners need someone on their side! Elizabeth Warren seems to be the only one. If we want to stop the foreclosures, we the people, need to speak up and ask the government to stop them.
Solution: the restructuring of mortgages should be done by the Consumer Protection Agency and dictated to the banks not submitted for their approval.
This agency was created to protect consumers against abusive business practices. Homeowners deserve to be protected against the abusive behavior of banks.
Please tell the president and members of congress that The Consumer Protection Agency should be in charge of restructuring mortgages. Foreclosures need to stop. There is strength in numbers-forward this petition to all the homeowners you know.
