Dunkin' Donuts is the self proclaimed worlds leader in baked goods and coffee. They also bill themselves as America's favorite brand of coffee. Both of these statements may indeed be true however they are not the environment's favorite brand of coffee. Dunkin' Donuts uses styrofoam cups for their coffees served. If you order an espresso, they give a small paper cup. It is shocking the volume of styrofoam cups used at their stores.
I personally stop at Dunkin' Donuts every day. Over the course of a year, if I were to have a coffee on average 4 days per week, that is 220 syrofoam cups that were served and then ultimately ended up in a landfill somewhere. Imagine if they were to switch their cups to something more sustainable - this could truly make a difference! Last year, the local Dunkin' Donuts location sold a cup that could be refilled for a discounted rate rather than purchasing a brand new cup. However, this promotion only was held for 2 months and then coffee returned back to full price.
I understand the most eco-friendly option is to brew coffee at home, however for those of us who chose to enjoy the wonderful Dunkin' Donuts locations, it would be nice to see them switch just as all of the other fast food locations have. McDonalds, Burger King, etc... all have made the switch.
On the Dunkin' Donuts brands website, they state their claim of responsibility to the planet:
"We recognize that everything we do has an impact on the environment. From the materials we use, to the way we construct and operate our stores, we are committed to adopting better, more sustainable approaches whenever possible."
So please sign the petition if you would also like to see Dunkin' Donuts honor their pledge and ask them to adopt a better, more sustainable approach to serving their delicious coffee.
Stop using styrofoam cups and switch to a more eco-friendly solution
