My name is Dean Barr.  My girlfriend, Molly, and I are struggling to get by and support our one year old daughter in these troubled times like everyone else.  I make a meager wage as a pharmacy technician, while Molly is pursuing her dream of graphic design at a local community college.  We are growing more and more frustrated with each government assistance program we are denied, as we know first hand a multitude of people who both receive and abuse it.

 Example:  A mutual friend of ours has two children and does not work.  She receives free daycare and unemployment.  A typical day for her involves dropping off her oldest child at free daycare and then spending the rest of her day doing drugs she purchased with her unemployment check until she has to go pick up her son.  

How is this fair?  We are doing all we can to get by and better ourselves, while others abuse federal assistance and our tax dollars simply to get high.

While discussing this issue last night, my girlfriend suggested that drug testing for those who receive federal assistance would remedy this disturbing trend we have noticed.  I could not agree more and now I am suggesting it to all of you.  Make drug testing mandatory for all who wish to receive government assistance.  If you want to waste your money on dope, get a job and put it on your own tab, not ours.
