The Veterinary Technician's Oath to uphold the profession's Code of Ethics includes the obligation to “prevent and alleviate the suffering of animals” and to strive to “understand, support, and promote the human-animal bond.” However, the PCC Veterinary Technology program curriculum involves raising pigs and then selling them to slaughter.

This is clearly not preventing nor alleviating suffering. In fact, it is needlessly dooming these sentient beings to horrors that are hard to even imagine. The indoctrination of the callousness inherent in raising an animal to then be sent to the slaughterhouse is clearly not promoting a “human-animal bond.”

In fact, it is reinforcing the harmful idea that it is acceptable for humans to cause pain and suffering in animals. As such, this is an inappropriate course of action for veterinary technology students.

Please demand allow the PCC Pigs to be allowed to live out their lives peacefully at a local animal sanctuary. A happy life awaits them, as does a clear conscience for students and staff, if only you will help to make it happen.
