Seattle resident and Change.org user Vera Johnson started a petition last month asking King County Councilmembers to restore funding for critical law enforcement position in the Seattle area community of White Center. Johnson was calling for the  White Center storefront sheriff's deputy position to be restored.

After receiving more than 100 messages from local residents, King County Councilmembers found funding to restore the White Center storefront sheriff'sdeputy through the end of 2012.

The "storefront" position is a sheriff’s deputy who works directly with the White Center community from a home base in the Sheriff’s Office storefront right in the heart of the business district. A petition has been in circulation for weeks – the deputy’s been gone for months – and was going to be presented to Sheriff Sue Rahr this Thursday. But now – its goal is in sight: As part of an anti-gang-violence plan just announced by King County Executive Dow Constantine and County Council members, a special criminal-justice fund will be tapped for programs including restoring the deputy, pending official council approval. More at WCN.

PROSTITUTION AND PUBLIC INTOXICATION ARE ON THE RISE.
   A STORE FRONT DEPUTY CONTRIBUTES TO THE OVERALL SAFETY OF THE WHITE CENTER COMMUNITY BY WORKING TO ADDRESS THESE PUBLIC NUISANCES, THE HOT SPOTS AND ALSO BACK UP THE PATROL DEPUTIES.

WE ASK THAT YOU PRIORITIZE PUBLIC SAFETY FOR THIS COMMUNITY AND RESTORE THE FUNDING FOR OUR STORE FRONT DEPUTY.
