Right now, your senators are looking at an energy bill that is better than the legislation passed by the House earlier this year. Your emails, combined with our intensive lobbying on Capitol Hill, persuaded the Senate to make it harder for polluters to get out of making greenhouse gas reductions for many years. 

Our work isn't done -- the draft energy bill released by Senators John Kerry (MA) and Barbara Boxer (CA) last week falls far short of what is needed to address the climate emergency that is facing the planet. The legislation still includes dangerous loopholes that let polluting companies off the hook.

In the next three weeks, senators and their staff will be meeting to discuss ways to strengthen this legislation, as well as how to respond to the lobbying from polluting companies seeking to weaken the bill. Your lobbying right now could play a critical role in determining whether the Senate comes up with legislation that cuts greenhouse gas pollution quickly, deeply, and effectively.

Take Action:

Urge your senators to speak out publicly in favor of strengthening the draft climate change legislation released by Senators Kerry and Boxer last week. In particular, we at FCNL are calling for two improvements. 

-Don't let polluters off the hook by letting companies purchase pollution allowances overseas.

-Make faster and deeper verified reductions in greenhouse gas pollution.
