I'm pretty sure that all Indian Trail eighth graders are infuriated that we don't all go to the same high school. You have to leave your loved ones. Most of your friends. Everyone. Sure, it might be hard to make the change since Explorer Night is already over, but the students could go to Central as a second Explorer Night. A little bit of tedious work is better than emotionally insane adolescents, right? District 202 should restructure high school boundaries to the school closest to a student's subdivision. In that way, parents can adjust pick-up times easier, buses will save gas and not harm the environment, and students will have a less chance of going into emotional distress.
Most likely, any student with an educational or athletic goal in life will have to stay after school a lot. Parents will, at some point, be aggravated at how far they have to drive every day. If we go to the closest high school, we could enjoy activities more freely. Personally, I am in a lot of extracurricular activities and I plan to do so in high school. My father complains about how far he has to drive to pick me up every day and it's going to be worse when I go to Plainfield East. East is 6.2 miles away from my subdivision while Central is only 4.1 miles. That's a two mile difference. If we transfer to Central, parents don't have to drive the extra distance, they don't have to waste gas, and they can save money. We've all noticed the rising of gas pricing, this can really help us with any monetary impediments.
I have a goal to "stay green," but that's difficult with how far the buses have to drive. One of the most common ways that humans harm the environment is by releasing toxic gases from cars and buses. Buses have to use more than one gallon of a type fuel called diesel for just one trip to East. That's about ten gallons in a week. Diesel emits CO, CO2, and NOx. NOx is the cause of acid rain. It also emits soot under hard acceleration.
When we're teenagers, we don't have a lot of emotional endurance, we're callow. Forcing this upon us just might push our sanity over the edge. 83% of the eighth graders in Indian Trail say that they're going to be emotionally distraught when we split up in high school. From then on, teenagers will go into emotional distress. Emotional distress causes the mind to be unable to make rational decisions. That could be one of the many causes of fights and teenage drug abuse. Sure, maybe some won't fall into emotional distress, but I guarantee that at least one person will. One of the most common causes for emotional distress is grief and loss, which will be what happens when we split up.
Wait, what about the sophomores and juniors that are already in Plainfield East, and made new friends? Well, 65% of all sophomores and juniors miss their old friends because that bond is stronger than the others. They personally said that they would rather switch to Central. Before, when Indian Trail didn't split up, the end of the year was happy. Ever since the split, graduation is just that much more emotional. On the last day of the year, whenever I saw eighth graders, the majority of them were crying because they were just that sad.
If you change the high school boundaries, I can almost guarantee that this will be a change for the better. No more pollution, no more crying. District 202 should restructure high school boundaries to the school's closest to a student's subdivision. In that way, parents can adjust pick-up times easier, buses will save gas and not harm the environment, and students will have a less chance of going into emotional distress. Assess the facts. Have the students at Indian Trail Middle school go to Plainfield High School Central Campus. Not half, but all of them. Only you can make the change to better our education, and solve our financial struggles.
