Big oil and Karl Rove partnered to spend over a million dollars in TV ads against Democratic candidate for California Attorney General, Kamala Harris. With 1 million absentee and provisional ballots to be counted, Kamala Harris is now narrowly trailing Prop 8 defender and Republican Steve Cooley in the race for California's attorney general.

No one other than a white male has served the as the state's top prosecutor. While history is hanging in the balance, don't let the big oil and big tobacco allies of Steve Cooley steal an election all over again.

Ask the Justice Department to send vote count observers and monitors to California.

With over 1 million provisional and absentee ballots to go, Steve Cooley has a slight lead over Kamala Harris and Californians may not know who won the race for "top cop" of the state.

Cooley declared victory on the night of the elections only for Kamala Harris to take the lead away from him the morning after. Millions of dollars came in from big oil and tobacco companies to finance ads against reformist and rising star, Kamala Harris.

Clearly, the recount initiative needs special monitors and observers to make sure that every vote is counted.

We don't want a repeat of 2000. Let democracy prevail.
