DO YOU LIVE IN COLORADO (or own property there)? If so, please sign by the end of the day on June 7th to help the people of Huerfano County get 10 more days to file comments on 8 new well applications for Shell Oil to drill in 4 pristine locations near the town of Gardner in the Huerfano River drainage.
State law allows only 20 days for public comment, but the Local Government Designee (LGD) can request a 10-day extension under rule 305.c.
John Galusha, the LGD for Huerfano County refused to ask for the 10-day extension that Citizens for Huerfano County requested. Instead of responding to our questions and concerns he deferred to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC).
This refusal is especially frustrating considering the recent Governor's special task force on oil and gas regulation which recommended the LGD as the solution to conflict over state vs local government regulation. In a recent interview*, task force chair Mike King described the LGD as, “the person who takes the requests, concerns and comments of local citizens to the COGCC” and “the key to a robust process” between the public and state.
The LGD is not working for us in Huerfano County!
Tell John Galusha to give people enough time to review and comment on Shell's plans to drill in pristine and new areas of Huerfano County by requesting the 10-day extension allowed under COGCC rule 305.c.
Thank you!
