State Dept: stop supplying tear gas to Egyptian government

The Issue

For years, the US has supplied the Egyptian government with tear gas as a non-lethal weapon to contain crowds. The Egyptian army and Central Security Forces have recklessly used tear gas in a manner that kills protestors. The US government must explicitly review the misuse of tear gas by Egyptian authorities and revoke the licenses that permit Combined Tactical Systems to sell tear gas directly to Egyptian authorities.

State department officials claim that there is no evidence of misuse of the tear gas, despite clear documentation to the contrary. Field hospitals were directly targeted and doctors killed; Egyptian authorities have used excessive amounts of tear gas that has resulted in the death of protesters by asphyxiation.

Tear gas in Egypt is being used to kill peaceful demonstrators; the US Departments of State and Commerce have allowed licenses that permit the direct sale of this tear gas from Combined Tactical Systems to the Egyptian authorities to expire. The licenses must be publicly reviewed and revoked.
