Re-open the "accidental drowning" case of Emma Rose Johnson
Re-open the "accidental drowning" case of Emma Rose Johnson
The Issue
Emma Rose Johnson was a 2 1/2 year old innocent child whose death came most untimely and suspicious. Born on 9/30/2008, Emma endured many hardships in her short little life but the difficulty and neglect surrounding her life brought the unthinkable unpon our family on June 4, 2011: her death was ruled as an "accidental drowning" despite the many circumstances that point to foul play. Her story is as follows: Emma was placed in her room to watch a movie while her parents (my sister and brother-in-law) claimed to "clean the house". After 30 minutes of leaving Emma unattended, her mother went into the room to check on her only to find the room empty. Understandably frantic, Vanessa Johnson (Emma's mother) searched through the entire house for Emma. Instead of searching the house, Cameron Hentschel (Emma's stepfather) ran out the back door, which was locked with a deadbolt. He immediately ran the 100 yards through the back yard to the stock pond where he "found" Emma unconscious in the water. Efforts made by Vanessa to resuscitate the child were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead in the EMSA ride to the hospital. Later confessions by Vanessa reveal that her and her husband were not in fact "cleaning the house" while Emma was unattended, but were smoking marijuana. Further drug tests were performed on the parents and Cameron tested positive for methamphetamine's. Many of the family's friends and relatives believe something more happened to Emma but due to a lack of evidence nothing was able to be done. Cameron Davis Hentschel was charged and convicted of Injury to a Child in 2005; because of his previous charge and the circumstances surrounding Emma's death, Cameron was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He is up for parole in another 6 months. The autopsy report on Emma states "Contusions were found on the forehead, chest, right ear, and right side of the back, left side of her cheek." and the amount of time she was actually in the water is unclear. On Emma's death certificate it states that she was pregnant at the time of death. This is not possible, therefore one can only wonder what other mistakes were made during this investigation. My only hope for this petition is that with your help we can re-open my niece's case and have a more thorough investigation completed so that Emma's death is clarified and justice served if need be.
