The portrayal of school classrooms in movies and television is sadly stuck firmly in the 1950's, where the teacher stands in front of the classroom and students sit neatly in rows. Rarely is a classroom seen as a place where students are engaged in learning, where technology is used, and where 21st Century learning skills are being practiced. Media producers have a golden opportunity to help in the current education reform debate be showing how classrooms should be: Places of engagement, technology infusion, collaboration, and cooperation. Parents, students and the general public need to be exposed to how the classroom SHOULD look, not how is HAS looked. By signing this petition, you will be helping send a message to media creators that the classrooms of yesterday are gone, and that students should be engaged in learning, and that they can help by having their programming be positive role models.
